Phase two of our work on the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, CA is underway and the new building with a spectacular clerestory and skylights is looking chic. Totaling 560,000 square feet, the structure’s gravity system uses concrete over metal deck with steel columns and beams. The lateral systems consist of buckling restrained brace frames which discreetly integrate with the modern architectural aesthetic. Due to the project’s massive size, the structure was seismically separated with a high roof cantilever from one building connected to a slide bearing connection on another, as well as seismic joints along the bridges.
