East Valley Middle School includes a 2 & 3 story wood classroom buildings, a single story wood kitchen/office building, a 2-story locker/dance and a covered lunch canopy on the site. The major challenge in this job was to design a 2-story classroom over the administration and library area since bearing and shear walls could not continue down to the foundation. Open web truss joists were utilized for the floor and roof framing, including the 68' long span at the multi-purpose building.
