Fremont Primary Center #2 is the first Type V, 1-hour school over subterranean parking to be permitted through DSA and constructed for LAUSD. Our negotiations with DSA over the design criteria for the discontinuous wood shear walls at the concrete podium has set the standard for all similar projects to follow. The school is a two-story wood building supported partially on grade and partially by a flat plate reinforced concrete slab above the basement parking. Other challenges in the project included discontinuous wood shear walls at the second floor above the Kindergarten Classroom and stepped roof diaphragms at the Multipurpose Building and at the Library.
