The Pioneer Middle School included a series of 6-classroom modules within 3 buildings, two science buildings, a library and administration building, and a gymnasium and multi-purpose facility. Our structural design took into consideration the sloping site that was graded to different levels creating many partial subterranean spaces throughout the different buildings. Several structurally challenging architectural features such as an elevator and stair towers in two buildings,
exposed heavy timber trusses in the gym and multi-purpose building, and hidden mechanical wells in the roof of all buildings were considered in the structural design of this complex.
