Harbor/UCLA Medical Center
Torrance, California


A teaching hospital affiliated with UCLA, the 400,000 sf main hospital building was constructed in 1958 prior to the significant building code changes brought about by the 1971 San Fernando Earthquake. Our review focused on a detailed evaluation of expected behavior during an earthquake to identify both structural and non-structural hazards. The County of Los Angeles required prioritized rankings of the proposed mitigation work that reflected a careful consideration of cost and benefit.
