Concern, motivated by the poor seismic performance of similar pre-1971 concrete structures, served as the catalyst for this seismic study of the 850,000 square foot facility. We evaluated the recommended mitigation work to address deficiencies discovered during the evaluation. Our approach, which focuses attention on estimating the strength of the existing lateral systems,
significantly reduced the amount of seismic rehabilitation work recommended. Included in our study was prioritization of required rehabilitation work, development of construction budget estimates, and evaluation of nonstructural component hazards.
