Slichter Hall Seismic Correction
University of California, Los Angeles

76,597 square feet
biomedical research
built 1965

Slichter Hall is a 1960s nonductile concrete frame building that UCLA wanted to maintain in operation during seismic upgrade work. The building is wedged between two existing structures that limited access on two sides of the building. ESI developed a seismic rehabilitation scheme incorporating exterior concrete frame scheme supplemented with concrete buttresses that allowed the work to take place on only two sides while maintaining occupancy of the building.
