This 23-acre project is the location of the Grand Champions Tennis Tournament. The 260,000 square foot hotel, now operated by Hyatt Hotels, consists of three interconnected guestwings that extend from the main public area. Each level of the 257 rooms within the five-story guestwings is constructed of precast concrete planks on concrete masonry shear walls with penthouse suites of metal stud and stucco. The public area building containing the lobby, restaurants, and meeting space is a two-story structural steel frame over a partially depressed concrete shear wall basement level. Next to the main hotel building is a precast concrete parking structure that services both the hotel and two adjacent championship golf courses.
A unique feature of the resort is the Championship Tennis Stadium. Excavated into grade, the 10,000-seat stadium provides prime views from any of the descending tiers to a single championship court. The area under the large steel tube shade structure can also be used as an amphitheater and contains the health club and salon. Other facilities include a 500-seat celebrity court with a clubhouse/pro-shop and twelve other tennis courts of grass and clay or hard surfaces.
