Companion to the Lodge at Koele, the 250-room five-star Manele Bay Hotel sits above Lanai's most beautiful white sand beach at Hulupoe Bay. Due to the remoteness of the island, the developer (Oceanic Properties) set up and operated their own aggregate crusher and ready-mix plant. This allowed the economical use of concrete for all the architectural arches and facades to create a building in the "Kamaaina Architectural Style". The structural engineering challenge was to adapt modern construction techniques to create an architectural expression of an earlier era.
