The Resort at Squaw Creek is a world class 4-star hotel and conference resort in Squaw Valley. The complex includes a 9-story hotel with a detached 35,000 square foot executive conference center. The tunnel-formed hotel sits on morainal deposits, which varied from 3 feet at one end of the building, to 50 feet at the other end. Estimated differential settlements were initially predicted at 18 inches. The first solution provided by another engineer was a 5 feet thick mat foundation along with foundation
recompaction of the deposits. Our firm coordinated with the Soils Engineer to develop a strip foundation system, which eliminated the differential settlement and also avoided the foundation recompaction. This complex and difficult project was coordinated closely with the contractor to be completed in 18 months.
