Los Angeles County Courthouse
Los Angeles, California

This eight story building houses over fifty Municipal and Superior Courtrooms. The January 17, 1994 Northridge Earthquake damaged this building and spurred the County of Los Angeles to repair it. Our firm was selected to conduct a detailed damage investigation program, develop a repair program, and develop several seismic strengthening schemes. Our analysis indicated that out of the several schemes developed, a base isolation scheme was the most cost effective, as this scheme could be constructed while the building remained fully operational.
