The multi-building Getty Center includes the 201,000 square foot Research Institute for the History of Art and the Humanities. Located at the southwest corner of the Center, the round steel space frame structure is built above a substructure constructed of reinforced concrete columns, slabs, and walls. The building houses a several hundred thousand volume library that also provides research and conference space for visiting scholars and archival storage of rare manuscripts, drawings, and sketches.
