This project involved the seismic review of the Rivera Library Complex, a building consisting of three separate structures built from 1952 through 1966. Included in the scope of work was a review of the existing structural systems, a review of site geotechnical hazards, development of seismic evaluation criteria and the development of seismic rehabilitation options. A variety of options were considered in the rehabilitation of the structure ranging from conventional shear walls to innovative approaches using seismic isolation or energy dissipation. The final report included a detailed discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each as well as the final recommendations for rehabilitating two of the three structures. This information was used as part of a Master Planning Study for the Library to determine the long-term development program for this facility.
