The multi-use development Union Rescue Mission, located at San Pedro and Sixth Street, was constructed of post-tensioned structural slabs with single bay concrete ductile frames which support a swimming pool and landscaping on the roof. The new Mission accommodates many services which include an 800 bed dormitory for men, women and children, recreation and assembly areas, clothing distribution and hygiene facilities, dining facilities, medical clinic and detoxification areas, learning and computer education centers, and administration offices. A unique structural solution consisting of concrete ductile frame with post-tension concrete floors was utilized for the structure as well as the subterranean 1 story of parking use for the basement area.
