Wiltern Center, adjacent to and serving the historic Wiltern Theater and Pellissier Building
landmark, is a four-story precast concrete parking structure with a building area of 165,000 square feet allowing for 424 spaces. Various structural systems were developed to evaluate costs and scheduling effectiveness. It was concluded that using the conventional precast concrete system in combination with precast ductile moment frames would shorten the construction schedule by two months -- 24% reduction of the project schedule. The precast ductile moment frames of this project utilized the Dywidag Ductile Connector®
(DDC) system. The frame components were fabricated in the precast yard and then
delivered to the site for erection, where they were simply bolted together in the field using high strength bolts. Upon completion of the precast elements, cast-inplace concrete topping slabs were then poured to form the diaphragms of the structure. The DDC system provided the owner a significantly shortened construction time which translated into cost savings to the owner.
