Our firm designed a seismic upgrade and renovation of the existing 1910 YMCA building. The structure was converted into a 150-room low-income housing hotel with community kitchen facilities and lounge. The existing building materials consisted of wood floors and partitions on the interior, wood and steel columns, and concrete and brick exterior walls. Some concrete columns and beams at the existing elevator and lobby areas were reframed to accommodate a new elevator. Extensive resupport and reframing was also required to move or remove existing interior wood bearing walls to accommodate the required architectural plan layouts.
