The Broadway State Office Building was an ambitious project undertaken by the State of California because the rehabilitation and seismic strengthening of a historic 1920's building using a Design/ Build approach is unique.

Our firm was retained as part of the design team to create the Design/Build criteria manual. An additional task was to provide a schematic design solution that could be executed within the criteria parameters. This schematic design was required for the State to have a level of confidence that there would be a solution to their project which was within their budget. The criteria had to be written to allow the Design/Build team enough flexibility to be creative in finding cost effective solutions. At the same time, the criteria had to comply with the life safety standards of the California Building Code.
