Seismic Reconstruction Project
University of California, Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California
Based on the results of our UCLA Seismic Study, we prepared construction documents for rehabilitating three of the highest priority buildings on the campus. We evaluated conventional and innovative rehabilitation techniques such as shear walls, interior and exterior frames, seismic isolation, and energy dissipation techniques and developed schematic designs for the most promising alternatives. Considering construction cost, construction time, structural efficiency, and amount of disruption to students, faculty, and staff, we prepared construction documents for the selected alternative for each
building. The historic building was rehabilitated from the interior using shear walls while exterior concrete frames and shear walls were used for the other two buildings. Classes were held in the latter two buildings throughout the entire construction phase. We served as the prime consultant on this project and provided comprehensive services including conceptual, schematic, design development and construction document preparation as well as bid evaluation and construction administration services.
