Programmatic limitations, significant seismic concerns, and serious code deficiencies motivated an extensive rehabili-tation of the Alex Theater, a 1920's concrete and steel historic building in Downtown Glendale. The long span steel roof framing and tall exterior walls were carefully evaluated to develop seismic rehabilitation recommendations sensitive to the historic fabric of the structure.
In addition to the rehabilitation
effort, a new stage extension, fly loft, and associated rigging were integral parts of the program. The project was completed within the budget and on time, due in part to a careful evaluation of available seismic strengthening alternatives and the comprehensive nature of the construction documents.
