Our firm took a downtown landmark, an historic fire station, facing demolition, through an adaptive re-use of restoration, expansion and seismic upgrading. The resulting building functions as a corporate headquarters, cultural affairs office, and restaurant. What is most significant about the project is that the unique characteristics of the 1912 structure were restored to their original condition. The integrity of the building was maintained, while at the same time the building was brought up to current codes (i.e. disabled access, seismic, fire/safety, etc.) under the strict dictates and approvals of the U.S. Department of Interior, the State Office of Preservation, and the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles.
