The Cardiff-By-The-Sea Belmont is a 3-story concrete building with three separate portions. The building is on a sloping site and each portion has one level of partial basement. The gravity system consists of concrete columns and 7-inch-thick post-tensioned slabs. The lateral system is a combination of CMU and concrete shear walls. Because of planning and zoning requirements, the building floor to floor height was limited to the thickness of the structural slab of 7 inches. The concrete columns were located to minimize the impact on room layout and maximize the usable space.
