The existing Thomas Laboratory on the campus of Caltech is a 1940’s vintage reinforced concrete structure that underwent an extensive architectural upgrade. In addition to a complete renovation of all interior spaces, two prominent architectural additions included a new auditorium which stands proud from the north elevation and a feature stair within a 3-story-tall building lobby. Portions of the north exterior wall and existing floors were removed and strengthened to incorporate these architectural elements.
