Los Angeles, CA | 100-foot diameter
The California Science Center replaces the original California Museum of Science and Industry, which was closed by the State Architect in the late 1980s because of seismic concerns. Visitors exploring the creative aspects of science in the 3-level, 122,500-square-foot facility are greeted by an exposed steel Entry Pavilion rotunda. The 100-foot-diameter Pavilion is a unique circular open structure with a perforated metal skin on a steel cross brace lattice which forms the seismic resisting system.
