Irvine, CA | 5 levels / 651 spaces | 210,000 sq ft

The Edwards Lifesciences Parking Structure flanks McGaw Avenue at the southern border of the campus. It is a five-level above-grade post-tensioned parking structure realized to resolve the shortage of parking on the campus. A concrete moment frame lateral system was selected over a concrete shear wall system which creates visibility and security issues. The moment frame was upturned to allow the beams to also function as the exterior vehicular barricade wall. Once completed, the simple structural concrete of form ties and colored concrete panels successfully married with the architecture creating a strikingly simple and refreshing structure for the campus.
