The multi-building Getty Center includes the 201,000-square-foot Research Institute for the History of Art and the Humanities. Located at the southwest corner of the Center, the round steel space frame structure is built above a substructure constructed of reinforced concrete columns, slabs, and walls. The building houses a several hundred thousand volume library that also provides research and conference space for visiting scholars and archival storage of rare manuscripts, drawings, and sketches.
