Los Angeles, CA | 5 stories | 66,228 sq ft

Designed and constructed simultaneously with the Student Services Building, the 66,228-square-foot Technology Building is 5 stories in height with a rectangular footprint. Both buildings have a partial subterranean basement that connect to an underground utility tunnel. The subgrade structures are constructed of reinforced concrete. The above grade structure consists of structural steel with metal deck on concrete fill floor/roof construction. Steel eccentric braced frames are placed at the corners of the buildings. They occur over the full height of the buildings. Gravity and lateral loads are supported by a conventional reinforced concrete spread footing foundations. All major mechanical equipment is placed on the roofs of the buildings. Although the main structural systems of the buildings are straightforward, the framing for the exterior wall was quite the opposite.
