The Leo J. Trombatore State Office Building is the 211,000-square-foot headquarters for the California Department of Transportation, District 3. The facility is designed to accommodate 750 employees for Caltrans administration, design and engineering studios. Included in the development are a 200-seat auditorium, public service counters, teleconferencing facilities, child care center and a cafeteria with outdoor tables and canvas awnings. The structural system selected was a hybrid, precast concrete frame and exterior skin that will enhance thermal lag, reducing heating and cooling energy loads and maximizing user comfort. The project was completed in 24 months through the design-build delivery method.
