Following the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, an existing 5-story building was demolished and its pile foundation left in situ. As the engineers of record for the replacement facility, our firm evaluated the feasibility of reusing the existing foundations, the impact of the existing foundations on new foundations, and methods to mitigate the adverse impact of the existing foundations. Based on our investigation, the design of the foundations for the new 5-story facility was undertaken and implemented successfully during the construction phase of the project.
