West Hollywood, CA | two Towers: 8 stories & 6 stories over 7 levels Parking, 1,430 spaces| 400,000 sq ft

The Red Building, designed by Cesar Pelli, is the third building to the iconic complex of structures known as the Pacific Design Center. Complementing the original Blue and Green buildings, the third building is comprised of two towers, the East Building and the West Building, and is unique in that it departs from the existing angular shaped structures to a curved, streamlined building that simulates a ship’s profile. The East Building façade juts out like a ships prow, cantilevering 66 feet over its 6- and 8-story shape. The West building façade similarly points outward at the base with a 66-foot cantilever where guests enter the structure under a column free area announcing their entry into the open structure. The unique building shape required sloped columns and varying floor plates to create a structural system that seamlessly integrates with the architectural shape. Further to the challenge was designing it above 7 levels of parking.

A close collaboration with the architectural designer resulted in a structural system that was effortlessly integrated adding a new icon to the Los Angeles skyline.
