Santa Barbara, CA | Museum: 3,606 sq ft / Plaza: 12,000 sq ft

The original University Art Museum opened in 1959 as a gallery for the campus art department and has since grown into an art center for the university. In order to accommodate the current needs, the entrance was relocated to service the newly configured functional galleries. A sky-lit gallery of oversized painting replaces a former outdoor court. The entrance now features a freestanding, steel-frame colonnade and glass canopy with new signage and lighting that serves to connect the museum with the exterior plaza.
